Anne-Sophie Lapix, the “queen of French presenters” who irritates politicians

Anne-Sophie Lapix, the “queen of French presenters” who irritates politicians

After eight years presenting the 8 p.m. news on France 2, Anne-Sophie Lapix will leave her post in July 2025. The foreign press has noted the journalist's "hard-hitting" style and is questioning the reasons for her departure.

Marine Le Pen had nicknamed her “Madame Political Commissioner” during a televised interview. Emmanuel Macron “never liked being interviewed by her,” writes the Tages-Anzeiger . And “after she got into Éric Zemmour’s bad blood,” explains The Times , she ended up receiving death threats. Anne-Sophie Lapix, the “queen of French anchors,” who has been at the helm of France 2’s 8 p.m. news since September 2017, will leave her post in July 2025, France Télévisions announced on May 27.

The presenter would pay "the price for the drop in audience figures for her hour-long news and interview show [since September 2024] compared to the competing news programme" on TF1, the British daily reports. Known as a "tenacious journalist, prone to light sarcasm," Anne-Sophie Lapix also suffered from the style of her interviews with politicians, the London newspaper claims. According to The Times , "the national broadcaster has finally given in to pressure from the political world."

“It is not politicians who will influence my decisions,” said the president of France Télévisions, Delphine Ernotte, when questioned on this subject.
